Employee spotlight: Hope Calder

In this Q&A, we’re finding out more about Hope Calder our Wayleave Officer. In this interview, discover more about her role, how her colleagues would describe her, and her hopes for Trenches Law…

Every person in the Trenches Law family is important to us, which is why we’ve decided to introduce you to a different member of the team each month – so you can learn more about them.

Summarise your role in one paragraph

As a Wayleave Officer, I spend the majority of my time obtaining signed wayleave agreements from freeholders of private roads and blocks of flats. I typically liaise with Housing Associations, property management companies, and independent freeholders across the various clients I work with.

What is your favourite part of your position at Trenches Law?

I love researching new contacts and establishing relationships which I then grow into strong connections. This all helps to obtain signed wayleaves for our clients – some that they’ve previously struggled to acquire.

Which one word do you think your colleagues would use to describe you?

Determined!

What word do you think best describes Trenches Law?

Inclusive.

What has been the most satisfying moment of your Trenches Law career so far?

Recently, I was part of the company’s events committee, and helped to organise our first annual music festival, Trenches Fest, to celebrate our four years in business. We enjoyed great music from live bands, and lots of fabulous food and drink. It was an excellent and thrilling experience with a great turn out and everyone had an amazing time.

I would also say that this is the first place I’ve worked where I’ve been able to be open about my autism. I’m accepted for who I am despite my thinking not always being the same as others. They see my strengths for what they are and take full advantage of them. I feel comfortable, welcome, and appreciated – I’m very grateful that I don’t have to hide a huge part of who I am from the people I work with.

If one of your colleagues could win an award (industry or office-related) who would it be and why?

Sophie Huntbach. She’s excellent at her role as our training and compliance manager. She provides first-rate guidance and is always available to support you when it’s needed. There is never a time when she cannot help you and she’s respectful of everyone’s needs.

What are your hopes for Trenches Law in the coming year?

I hope we keep growing and achieving great success. Plus, obtaining new clients and expanding the business to allow everyone to flourish and develop into their roles.
