Trenches Law founder joins WISPA advisory board

Sharon McDermott — the founder and managing director of Trenches Law — has been appointed as a non-exec on the advisory board of WISPA (Wireless Internet Service Providers’ Association).

Working together to shape the future of the UK’s broadband landscape, she is one of seven industry experts appointed to support the trade body at the highest level. The news comes following three years of Trenches Law being a WISPA member.

Sharon was approached by the founder and chairman of the association, David Burns, who was seeking to bring more diversity to the esteemed board. Having recognised that Sharon is a well-known name within the telecommunications industry — with decades of legal counsel experience under her belt — he asked if she would join as an advisor.

Honoured by the opportunity to help support wireless internet providers with their progression — particularly in-line with WISPA’s mission to promote the interests of the industry, and ensure member services are of the highest possible standard — she was keen to get involved.

“A number of Trenches’ clients are fellow WISPA members, so the organisation already matters a lot to our business,” explained Sharon. “We admire and respect the work of the association and the level of support it provides to this fast-paced sector, as it echoes our own commitment to help unlock the digital future of the UK.

“So when the chance arose to work more closely with the advisory board, I of course said yes. This is the perfect platform to share my knowledge and insight for greater good, and I think it will be an enriching experience for me away from my daily workload too.”

Fellow advisory board members include founder David Burns, who is also managing director of Boundless Networks and co-founder of Wireless Coverage Ltd; group CTO at Cambium Networks, Nigel King; Hal Ponton, senior network engineer for Buzome and FibreWiFi; George Taylor from Caudata; Ian Bushford, founder of MS (Distribution) Ltd; and Steve Leighton, CEO of Voneus.
