Trenches Law has achieved significant growth during the last financial year, with a 37% year-on-year increase in turnover, driven by the successful onboarding of a range of new clients, seeing a 16% uptick in partnerships during the last financial year.
Since the start of the firm’s financial year (July 2024), the team has welcomed the addition of ten new clients, including two international partners. To support this sustained growth, Trenches Law has strengthened its team with two senior hires – Rosana Lee as head of legal and Caroline Ford as solicitor. The new appointments bring a wealth of expertise to the firm, enhancing its ability to meet the growing demand for legal services in the telecommunications, technology, and EV markets.
Sharon McDermott, co-founder and managing director of Trenches Law, commented: “The past year has been remarkable, with substantial gains not just in revenue but also in the breadth and depth of our client base. The addition of Caroline and Rosana to our team reflects our commitment to providing quality legal expertise to our clients.
Their vast industry experience will help us continue to deliver the highest level of service as we enter this exciting new phase – especially as we look to facilitate the installation of both fibre and EV charging point infrastructure to multi-dwelling units (MDUs) so that nobody is left behind.”
Rosana Lee steps into the position of head of legal, bringing with her 16 years as a qualified solicitor, the majority spent in the technology sector – serving as legal counsel at KCOM, and more recently at Exponential-e and Virtual1. Her career includes key roles in various telecoms companies, and she has previously worked with Trenches Law on a consultancy basis.
Reflecting on her appointment, Rosana Lee said: “It’s fantastic to join Trenches Law at such an exciting time. Having collaborated with the firm before, I’ve seen firsthand the dedication and expertise the team brings to its clients. I’m eager to help shape the legal strategy as the company continues to grow.”
Caroline Ford, who joins as a solicitor, has been qualified for over 30 years and has extensive commercial legal expertise, particularly from in-house roles. Her previous experience includes working with companies such as Bulb Energy Ltd and ElevateNext UK, with a focus on telecommunications.
Caroline’s career began at the prestigious firm, Allen & Overy, followed by several years at Hammond Suddards. Since then, she has held prominent in-house positions, including stints at Shell International Ltd and Telewest Ltd, where she first crossed paths with Sharon McDermott. Sharon and Caroline subsequently worked together at Virgin Media Limited and Caroline has also worked at Trenches Law previously.
Commenting on her new role, Caroline said: “I’m excited to join Trenches Law and be part of a company that is not only growing rapidly but is also highly respected for its work in the telecommunications, tech, and commercial law sectors. I look forward to applying my in-house legal expertise to support our clients and contribute to the company’s ongoing success.”
The firm has also made significant inroads into the growing EV market by harnessing its specialist telecoms wayleave experience to the sector, enabling clients to help meet government targets for the transition to EV by 2035 through the installation of key infrastructure. Trenches recently completed such a project with Ocean Charge, a leading provider of zero-cost EV charging solutions.
With continued growth and a strong pipeline, the firm has a positive outlook for 2025 and is now looking to recruit a further lawyer into the legal team.
