Trenches Law’s 2022 in highlights

As another year draws to a close, we’re still finding it hard to believe that 2023 is just weeks away! It goes without saying that the past twelve months haven’t been without challenge and uncertainty for most businesses and individuals. But in more generous measure, we’ve faced a significant number of opportunities, and achieved some monumental successes too.

As a results-driven business operating in a fast-growth sector, we know the value of stopping to ‘smell the roses’ along the way. That’s why, before we head into another year of delivering wayleave expertise, extending commercial legal guidance, and accelerating network build programmes with our new surveying service, we wanted to pause and take a moment of reflection.

Here are just some of the things Trenches Law has achieved in 2022…

Independent awards recognition aplenty

When we set out in January with a target of receiving four nominations and one win, we never dreamed that we’d exceed this mark so triumphantly.

Not only did we land 9 esteemed nominations with the likes of Connected Britain, the Federation of Small Businesses, and the Independent Networks Cooperative Association to name a few, we also secured five of these titles, and received high commendations in a further two. Who knows, maybe we’ll trump this tally again in 2023?

Launching the new-look Trenches Law brand

Rolling out a re-brand is no mean feat. But following a consistent period of growth and a natural shift in our identity, we felt that this year was the right time to build on the foundations we first established in 2017.

As well as proving a crucial step in boosting brand engagement, the project paved the way for more focused communications with clients, prospects and employees – with better defined brand values, refined language, and a slicker website experience. We’re still really proud of the result almost twelve months on!

Announcing IWF as our Charity of the Year

At Trenches Law, we’ve been supporting a whole host of not-for-profit organisations over the years. But 2022’s nominated charity, the Internet Watch Foundation (IWF) hit particularly close to home when we first embarked on our partnership in June.

Our client base is predominantly comprised of altnet operators, who need to closely monitor the information that passes through their network to ensure it remains a safe and comfortable space for end users. As such, the organisation’s mission is central to our clients’ operations. We look forward to strengthening this relationship even further next year.

Speaking at industry-renowned events

Bolstering the line-up of panellists during Channel Live’s FTTP discussion and INCA Conference’s DCMS scorecard debate was a significant highlight this year, enabling our Operations Director Terry Daniell to showcase his expertise. But this wasn’t the only speaking slot Trenches Law secured this year.

Recently, Terry also headed up a session with Head of Legal and Solicitor, Georgina Rudak, for SCTE’s Autumn Lecture. Shedding some light on the complexity of wayleaves, it was a privilege to see the pair work together in front of such a captivated audience.

Exhibiting at Connected Britain

Having attended the UK’s most renowned event in the connectivity space for a number of years now, we were proud to exhibit at the London-based expo this year. It was a pleasure to help delegates understand the importance wayleaves hold in relation to supporting operators, wholesalers, and resellers to meet their connectivity objectives.

It was truly fulfilling to not only see how busy Trenches Law’s stand remained over the two-day conference, but to witness what a hit success the giveaways were too.

Introducing our new surveying service

Acknowledging the distinct lack of qualified surveyors within the market – and the impact this is having on the country’s ambitious infrastructure projects – Trenches Law unveiled a brand-new surveying service in November this year.

We worked closely with altnet Digital Infrastructure on a pilot scheme to beta test the service prior to launch, and have received an overwhelming response since we announced the news. We’re excited to further navigate this challenging ecosystem with our recently-launched service, in 2023.

Collaborating with GOS Consulting

With strict practices introduced in the Telecoms Security Act, ISPs and mobile network operators are under increasing scrutiny from the Government. But making network builds as headache-free as possible for operators remains a key priority here at Trenches Law.

That’s why we were so delighted to collaborate with GOS Consulting a couple of months ago, on an invaluable piece of content, the TSA Compliance Toolkit, which makes navigating the rules easier.

Exceeding our target of legal clients we work with

More than doubling our portfolio of legal clients is not only a real testament to our expertise, but a sign that our growth trajectory is accelerating at pace too. Having massively exceeded our yearly target, we’re looking forward to extending our support even further afield over the coming months.

Doubling our LinkedIn follower count

As we continue to disrupt the electronic communications market and challenge the status quo, the Trenches Law team was delighted to reach yet another milestone moment in November – as our LinkedIn page hit the 2,000-follower mark. Here’s hoping we can do the same again over the next twelve months!

And there you have it – Trenches Law’s 2022 in highlights. There’ll be plenty more where that came from in 2023. But until then, Season’s Greetings and Happy New Year from our business, to yours.

Just to let our clients know, the office will be closed on Friday 23 December, and will re-open again on Tuesday 3 January. For emergencies, our office number will be diverted and picked up by a member of the team – so you know help is always there, should you need it.
